24 year old VC Young Artist Timothy Chooi from Canada has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Schadt String Competition – in Allentown, United States.

Dispeker Artists is pleased to welcome industry veteran Jenny Palmer, who joins the agency as Director of Booking. Jenny was most recently a Vice President at IMG Artists, where she worked from 2001 to 2017, serving as Booking Manager for the Midwest and West Coast. Prior to that, Jenny was at Rena Shagan Associates, as a booking agent for the Northeast, and also handled tour management for RSA’s international artists.

Jenny began her arts management career at The Paul Taylor Dance Company, working as Associate Company Manager for Taylor 2, and Operations Associate.  Her varied background is not exclusive to the arts, however, having also worked in the financial services, fashion and travel industries.

Jenny brings a wealth of knowledge of the classical music industry and the performing arts, domestically and internationally, which promises to be a tremendous asset for Dispeker Artists as it expands its venerable past into an exciting future.

The Cathedral Choral Society announced the four-year appointment of Steven Fox as Music Director beginning with the 2018-19 season. As its third Music Director, Fox will succeed Dr. J. Reilly Lewis who led the chorus from 1985 until 2016. Fox will serve as Music Director Designate for the 2017-18 season.

Tracy Dahl is being honored with the Order of Canada for her accomplishments as an opera singer and for her commitment to mentoring the next generation of Canadian singers.

Banff International String Quartet Competition 2016 names 10 shortlisted ensembles - The 10 quartets will compete from 29 August to 4 September for a first prize worth $150,000. 




Astral Artists has announced the 2016 national audition winners - including VC Young Artist Timothy Chooi.


Christoph Campestrini has been appointed Kapellmeister at Vienna’s Hofkapelle, home of the Vienna Boys’ Choir. With the appointment, Campestrini joins the ranks of the historically important and influential musicians who have been members of the Hofkapelle. He will lead the famed Hofmusikkapelle, which includes the Vienna Boys’ Choir and members of the Vienna State Opera orchestra and chorus.


The Metropolitan Opera announced that Canadian violinist Nikki Chooi has been named the company’s new concertmaster. Mr. Chooi, 27, will serve a one-year term beginning next month and continuing through the end of the company’s 2016-17 season. He joins current Met concertmaster David Chan, who will continue in the position, which he has held since 2000.



The Jasper String Quartet has been selected as winner of the 2016 Fischoff Educator Award. This national award recognizes the educational outreach work of Fischoff Competition alumni who have demonstrated outstanding and imaginative programming for children and youth in the United States. It honors musicians who have established professional careers in chamber music, and have proven their ability to successfully build a career in both chamber music performance and outreach education.

As winner of the Fischoff Educator Award, Jasper String Quartet will receive a coveted endorsement from Fischoff, a cash award, and a week of community outreach programs in the South Bend region October 24-27, 2016 as part of Fischoff's award-winning Arts-in-Education Residency.
