Gauvin Performs on Critically Acclaimed Release of Handel's Messiah

“I cannot remember a Messiah presentation as uniformly ‘spot-on’ as this year’s by Ivars Taurins’ Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and Baroque Orchestra.” — Globe & Mail

Tafelmusik Media presents a brand new live recording of Handel’s baroque masterpiece, Messiah. This two-CD recording of the entire work on period instruments is led by Ivars Taurins and features Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir and a stellar cast of soloists: Karina Gauvin, soprano; Robin Blaze, countertenor; Rufus Müller, tenor; and Brett Polegato, baritone. This CD was recorded live using 24-bit HD technology in the splendid acoustics of Toronto’s Koerner Hall in December, 2011.

Tafelmusik presents this intimate and stirring performance with the spirit and vitality of Handel’s own 18th-century presentations. “Superhuman,” “spot-on,” “crisp,” and “inspired” are just a few of the words critics have used to describe Tafelmusik’s Messiah. A perennial favourite with audiences and critics alike, Tafelmusik’s Messiah has garnered glowing reviews year after year. This live CD recording of Messiah makes a perfect companion to Tafelmusik Media’s recent DVD/CD release of excerpts from Tafelmusik’s popular Sing-Along Messiah. This year, Tafelmusik’s performances of Messiah take place at Koerner Hall from December 19 – 22, and Sing-Along Messiah takes place at Massey Hall on December 23.
