b i o g r a p h y...........back to roster....up James de Blasis (Producer/Director) formerly Artistic Advisor, Pittsburgh Opera; General Director/Artistic Director, Cincinnati Opera (28 years) has been synonymous with opera and theater in the United States during the past forty years. In addition to his administrative positions, his career includes guest directing for the major North American Opera Houses. Critics have praised his human approach to the standard repertoire and to unique conceptions of rarely produced works. During his leadership of Cincinnati Opera, three nationally recognized revivals - Resurrection, Zaza and Schwanda - were produced. His Wild West production of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love was filmed for telecast by PBS and broadcast nationally. As well as his international reputation, he has garnered the Ohio Governor’s Award in Art Administration and the Cincinnati Post-Corbett Award as Outstanding Performing Artist of the Year. He is recognized in both Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Music. Since his resignation from Cincinnati Jim and his wife Ruth have been year-round residents of Amagansett, NY. During this period he was the guiding force behind “Songs for a Summer Night” in East Hampton; benefiting AIDS and East End Hospice. He serves as an East End Hospice Board Member and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister of the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Long Island. An independent stage director, de Blasis coaches Dramatic Interpretation of Operatic Roles in his New York City Studio. |
