September 2007

Allan Glassman has thrilled audiences throughout America and Europe with his vibrant tenor and committed interpretations of roles. Describing his portrayal of Calaf, the Courier-Post thought "Alan Glassman sang with thrilling intensity. In the confrontation with Turandot in the riddle scene, Glassman hurled high Cs that cut through the orchestra and chorus. His incisive, full-toned tenor rang out powerfully, but also caressed the lyrical arias."

Glassman’s current season brings him to the Dallas Opera as Herod in Salome, a role he repeats with Opera Pacific in March 2009. He is also engaged to sing in Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci at the Santa Barbara Opera. The previous summer he sang the title role in Otello with Des Moines Metro Opera and at the Chautauqua Festival.

Season 2006/07 began with the role of Cavaradossi in a new production of Tosca at the Belleayre Music Festival (NY), followed by concerts of Mahler’s Lied von der Erde with the Xalapa Symphony, in Xalapa and Veracruz, Mexico, and a gala opera concert with Johnstown Symphony (PA). Glassman continued the season by singing Canio in Puccini’s I Pagliacci at Palm Beach Opera, Shuisky in Boris Godunov with San Diego Opera and Chevalier Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut with Fresno Grand Opera. Furthermore, he performed the roles of Sacco in Sacco and Vanzetti at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot with New Jersey Opera Theatre and the role of Walter Engelmann in Pasatieri’s Frau Margot at Fort Worth Opera.

Allan Glassman began the 2005-2006 season singing Rusalka with The Fort Worth Symphony and took part in three productions at the Metropolitan Opera: The world premiere of Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy, Wozzeck and Mazeppa. During the 2004-2005 season, he sang the title role in Idomeneo with The Los Angeles Opera where he was double cast with Placido Domingo. He also sang Herod in Salome with Ft. Worth Opera and Das Lied von der Erde with Grand Rapids Symphony. He has sung over 80 different tenor roles, and he added one more to his repertoire with Samson in Samson and Dalilah which he sang with both Opera Pacific in Orange County, CA, and The New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv that year.

A regular at the Metropolitan Opera, Allan Glassman triumphed as Herod in a new production of Salome starring Karita Mattila in the spring of 2004. He was also heard in Die Frau ohne Schatten and Boris Godunov. Mr. Glassman sang the role of Calaf in Turandot with Florida Grand Opera and he sang a concert performance of Boito’s Mephistofeles with Boston Concert Opera last spring.

In recent seasons, Glassman has been heard at the Metropolitan Opera in operas such as The Great Gatsby, Carmen, Elektra, Katya Kabonova and The Ghost of Versailles. He has been a frequent guest at New York City Opera as well, where he has performed the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Don Jose in Carmen and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly among many others. He was heard recently with Florida Grand Opera as Herod in Salome, Shuisky in Boris Godunov, and Boris in Katya Kabonova. Other American companies to which Glassman lent his talents include Dallas Opera, Connecticut Opera, Arizona Opera, Washington Opera, Greensboro Opera, Atlanta Opera, Florentine Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera to name but a few.

Allan Glassman has performed extensively in Europe, where his performances have included Manrico in Il Trovatore with the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin; title role in Ernani, Don Jose in Carmen and I Vespri Siciliana with L’Opéra de Nice; I Vespri Siciliani with Den Norske Opera; Carmen with Opera Valencia in Spain and the Prince in Rusalka with Oper Frankfurt. In concert he has sung Prince Osaka in Mascagni’s Iris with the Münchner Philharmoniker and Verdi’s Requiem with L’Opéra de Nice.

Allan Glassman lives in Plano, Texas with his wife, soprano Jeanine Thames, and their 5 year old son, Benjamin.
