American soprano, Camillia Johnson, has an extensive and distinguished concert and oratorio repertoire. She has appeared with conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Gunther Herbig, Neeme Järvi, Raymond Leppard, Yoel Levi, Jahja Ling, John Nelson, Sir Simon Rattle, Gerard Schwarz, Leonard Slatkin, Michael Tilson Thomas, and David Zinman. Her operatic performances have taken her to the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Opera Pacifica, among others. Miss Johnson recently was heard in Ticheli’s An American Dream with Quad City Symphony, as the lead in Debussy’s La Damoiselle Élue with Young People's Chorus of New York City, and in the Verdi Requiem with Pacific Chorale and Florida Orchestra. She has also sung the Verdi Requiem with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra under Slatkin.

During the 08/09 season, Johnson makes her debut with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico in Mahler’s Four Last Songs, whereas in the US she joins the Quad City Symphony in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Engagements in recent seasons have included concert performances of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess at the Hollywood Bowl under John Mauceri; with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Bobby McFerrin; and with the National Symphony Orchestra at Wolf Trap. She performed Strauss’ Four Last Songs with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Dutoit, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the National Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Symphony; and scenes from Aida, Il Trovatore, and Simon Boccanegra with the Vancouver Symphony. She performed in the world premiere of Ticheli’s An American Dream with the Pacific Symphony. Other programs have taken her to the stage of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra for Beethoven’s Ah, perfido! and Choral Fantasy, and to the Florida Orchestra for Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Miss Johnson also participated in a Gala performance with the Czech Philharmonic in Prague under the direction of Libor Pesek, which was televised live in the Czech Republic and broadcast throughout Europe and America on PBS. In the 2006/07 season, she performed Strauss’ Four Last Songs with Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam and London as well as Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard with Oregon Symphony, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14 and Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the Richmond Symphony.

Other highlights were a concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra honoring the memory of Martin Luther King and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Oratorio Society of Washington at the Kennedy Center and with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She sang Grieg’s Peer Gynt with Cleveland Orchestra; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and with the symphonies of Detroit and Indianapolis. Festival appearances include Poulenc’s Gloria and Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Grant Park; Strauss’ Four Last Songs at Spoleto/USA; Gershwin songs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia; and the "Gershwin Years Festival" at the Barbican Centre with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Miss Johnson began her career as a recitalist with Young Concert Artists (YC) and made her Lincoln Center recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in December 1995 as the recipient of the coveted Michaels Award. In that same season, she also appeared with the New York Festival of Song at New York’s Weill Recital Hall in a program entitled "A Langston Hughes Celebration". She made her New York recital debut in March 1994 at the 92nd Street "Y."
