April 2009

Tilman Lichdi grew up near Heilbronn and started his first singing lessons at the age of 18 with Alois Treml (State Theater of Stuttgart). In spite of that, he first studied the trumpet for four years in Mannheim with Prof. Günther Beetz and switched to voice studies with Mrs. Prof. Charlotte Lehmann (who also taught Thomas Quastoff) in 1999 in Würzburg where he passed his finals with distinction.

In the realm of oratorio, Tilman Lichdi has sung all the major works, and has worked with such conductors as Christoph Poppen (Munich), Wolfgang Gönnenwein (Ludwigsburg) and Jörg Straube (Hannover). He especially devotes himself to the evangelist's parts of Bachs passions and oratorios. He has deepened his extensive song repertoire in master classes with Dr. Ernst Huber-Contwig, Prof. Helmut Deutsch and Prof. Peter Schreier (song interpretation).

During the 2008/09 season Lichdi is heard as Belmonte in Mozart's Die Entührung aus dem Serail, and as Arturo in Bellini's I Puritani. In 2009 follow guest performances to the Chatelet in Paris with Monteverdis Vespers (1610) and a tour with Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Barock orchestra across Italy and Spain (Bach’s St. Matthew's Passion).

Recent engagements brought him to Charlotte, where he performed Haydn's Creation with Christoph Perick, and to Brazil performing Bach's St. Matthew's Passion with Kent Nagano.

Guest performances led him to the operas of Würzburg, Heidelberg, the Munich Biennale, Flensburg, Kaiserslautern and Mannheim. Since season 2005/06 Tilman Lichdi is engaged with a fest contract at the State Theater of Nürnberg under principal conductor Christof Perick. So far he has sung at the house the parts of Mozart's Tamino (Magic Flute), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) Count Belfiore (La finta giardiniera), Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and also the part of Count Almaviva (in Rossini`s Barbiere).
