The Janacek Festival - Hyde Auditorium, Glens Falls

Dvorak/Janacek Recital

"Mary Ann McCormick, mezzo soprano, graced the stage with a presence that visually and vocally commanded the attention of the audience. With a vocal charisma bigger than the auditorium, her performance of "Ziegeunermelodien (Gypsy Songs) Op. 55" by Antonin Dvorak mesmerized the audience. Her international reputation and fine pedigree over the last 20 years was well-earned."

"Connecticut Opera Stages A Powerful `Carmen' "

The role of Carmen at The Connecticut Opera

From the Hartford Courant, October 28, 2006

"Mezzo-soprano Mary Ann McCormick is an elegant and poised "Carmen," with a silken lower register. One might have wished for more eroticism in the first act, particularly in the famous "Habanera" which, though beautifully sung, lacked a certain voluptuousness - though in this day and age, perhaps there's something to be said for a little understatement. Regardless, any such caviling was easily forgotten by the time we reached Act Four. Here, McCormick was at her best, brilliantly capturing the essence of the doomed-but-defiant heroine. One could feel the electricity in the air as her fate approached, and when the final blow came, it left the audience stunned and reeling in the wake of a moment of genuine tragedy."

Jonathan Dove's opera Flight -
The Minsk Woman at the Boston Lyric Opera (Minsk Woman)

From The Boston Globe, Richard Dyer, April 28, 2005

"Mezzo soprano Mary Ann McCormick as a pregnant woman, countertenor David Walker as a refugee (modeled on the same man who inspired Steven Spielberg's ''The Terminal"), and contralto Myrna Paris as an Older Woman have the most meaningful roles, the ones that go farthest within, and they make the most of them. Walker's diction suffers from off-center vowels, but he is a good singer with a consistently alert and affecting presence. Paris maintains her dignity even when leading a conga line, and makes every word and gesture tell. McCormick casts a spell through operatic essentials -- a beautiful voice, expressively used."

Rigoletto at the Seattle Opera (Maddalena)
The role of Maddalena in Rigoletto - Seattle Opera

From the Seattle Weekly, October 20, 2004

"McCormick's Maddalena was a ripe-busted platinum blonde à la Jayne Mansfield with a dusky, seductive, violalike quality to her voice. Some company ought to build a Carmen around her."

Rigoletto at the Seattle Opera (Maddalena)
In the role of Maddalena at the Seattle Opera

From
The Seattle Times, October 18, 2004

"Maddalena, Mary Ann McCormick was all sultry sensuality: Not since Mrs. Robinson in "The Graduate" has a pair of long stockings been removed so effectively."
