Richard Roberts was born in Kansas, USA. He completed a degree in Music at the University of Kansas and studied further at the Chautauqua School of Music, New York.

Mr. Roberts’ recent performances include singing Steva in Jenufa in a UK nationwide tour with English Touring Opera. Formerly a principal artist with both the Staatstheater Kassel, Germany, and the English National Opera, London, his many roles include the Witch in Hansel und Gretel, Truffaldino in Love for Three Oranges, Goro in Madama Butterfly, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Walther in Tannhäuser, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, and David in Die Meistersinger (Concertant) in Germany and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Edmondo in Manon Lescaut, Young Guard in King Priam, Platon Karataev in War and Peace in London. Mr. Roberts has recorded the role of Bardolf in Falstaff for Chandos Records and is the voice of the Cockerel on the BBC Films animated version of Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen, conducted by Kent Nagano.

Mr. Roberts’ concert appearances include 4th Jew in Salome with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Hickox, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at St John’s Smith Square, the Mozart Requiem at the Royal Festival Hall, and Carmina Burana at the Barbican Hall in London; Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Sheffield Cathedral, Beethoven’s Ninth symphony at the Brighton Dome and Britten’s St. Nicolas in Milton Keynes. Also in demand for Opera Gala evenings, Mr. Roberts has performed in Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, and at the National concert halls in Cardiff, Glasgow, and Dublin.

Recent engagements include the role of Goro with Dayton Opera as well as cover for the role of Prince in Russalka with Opera Australia in the spring 2007. He returns to Opera Australia for the productions of Les contes d’Hoffman and Arabella.
