b i o g r a p h y.......back to roster....up June 2010 German-born mezzo-soprano Eva Vogel has made her mark on the European music scene with her distinctive timbre and artistic flair that have resulted in impressive collaborations with major opera houses and orchestras. Future and recent engagements include a song recital during the Klavierfestival Ruhr 2010, Bach's St. John Passion with the Winnipeg Symphony, Krenek’s Orpheus und Eurydike at Konzerthaus Berlin, Krasa’s Symphony for small Orchestra with Sir Simon Rattle in Berlin, Wellgunde in Götterdämmerung at the Salzburg Easter Festival and a return to Hamburg Laeiszhalle for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Returning to the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2009, Ms. Vogel sings Flosshilde in Götterdämmerung with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle. Her 2007/8 season included her debut at the Salzburg Festival as Grimgerde in Die Walküre, a role she has also performed at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. At Cologne Opera, Ms. Vogel recently appeared as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana alongside Jose Cura. This was followed by her debut as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier this past season with the Huntsville Symphony in the U.S. At Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Eva Vogel covered the role of Ramiro in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, which she also sang with Nuremberg Opera. Roles in 2007 included Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus (directed by Brigitte Fassbaender) as well as Flora in La Traviata with the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck in Austria. In previous seasons, Ms. Vogel worked extensively with the Düsseldorf Opera where she portrayed Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Grimgerde in Die Walküre and Tessa in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers. Under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher, Ms. Vogel sang Blumenmädchen in Parsifal at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, where she also appeared in “Flammen” by Erwin Schulhoff with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Edo de Waart in a live broadcast. Roles with the Cologne Opera include Linette in L’amour des trois Oranges, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, Death in Le Rossignol and Waltraute in Die Walküre. Equally at home with concert and recital repertoire, Ms. Vogel has regularly appeared in Germany, the United States and Switzerland. After her lied recital with Irwin Gage during the Klavierfestival Ruhr in Germany in 2005, the praised her “warm and clear flowing voice, striking stage presence and wonderful musicality” (Rheinische Post). During her years at Yale University, where she studied with Doris Yarick-Cross and Christa Ludwig, Ms. Vogel performed such roles as Carmen in Peter Brooks’ Carmen, Cherubino in Nozze di Figaro, Ottone in Il Coronatione di Poppea, Maddalena in Rigoletto and Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte. With Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Eva Vogel sang the role of Ozias in a staged version of Vivaldi’s oratorio Juditha Triumphans. After graduating from Yale, Ms. Vogel made her debut with the Chamber Opera Hamburg as Musetta in Leoncavallo’s La Bohème. Thereafter she sang the role of Carlotta in Donizetti’s Borgomaastro di Saardam with much success: „The Great Houses of this World should be within reach fort this young mezzosoprano, whose vocal material, musicality and wonderful stage presence are pointing the way to a great future.“ (Orpheus Magazine) Ms. Vogel graduated from Mannes College of Music and Yale University in the U.S. and then joined Cologne Opera to continue training as a young artist.
